Shoe opinions

Hey everyone! It's come time to do the brakes. I'm going centric's and hawk hps's out front, after seeing a lot of people go that route. My question is what do you all recommend for the shoes? It's just for a daily but a little performance added would be nice, though I know the rear doesn't do much. Any thoughts, opinions?

Thanks!

I just used cheapo shoes. The rear drums do such a small portion of braking it isn't worth extra to me for fancy performance brake shoes. The last three brake changes on my car were all front brakes ignoring the rear altogether. On my next brake job I will be ordering new rear drum assemblies as mine look hideous from rust and have started to squeal after the mile on them.

Hmm, I thought I might buy cheaps too, but wanted to check around first.
Thanks!

Yeah, no such thing as performance drum brakes. Mine squeak every time I let off the brake pedal. Do I need new shoes? It's just the rears that do it.

C-F-M has some listed by Centric listed as "premium" but by no means would I consdier them performance.

IMO no drum is a performance brake.

could need just need adjusted or they could be shot depending on your mileage and driving habits.

your shoes are rubbing up against the backing plate. That's creating the noise. Usually a small amount of anti-seize compound on the backing plate will stop this. Worked on my 97 Escort.

I would inspect them for wear, but that's all. I enjoy drifting with my ebrake in winter, so I just adjusted mine for the first time recently.

That works maybe six months then it's back. If you knock the right angle end of pad down to an angle like they do front pads then the noise disappears forever regardless of brand, both mine are done like that. Before, the noise would drive you nuts. Now no noise at all on same shoes that made noise before.
