Burning Clutch Smell - Brand new 2014 SE DCT

Test drove a 2014 SE (fresh off the delivery truck today). After 10-15 normal driving there was a strong clutch-burning smell.

This is an automatic (DCT). Is that 'normal' for new DCT car or is it an early sign of endless DCT nightmare?

We actually tried a brand new ST as well from the same shipment. No smell there even with my wife's poor clutch skill.

Thoughts?

It could have been just that "burnt smell" that goes along with a brand new car. Like the exhaust heating up for the first time, brakes being used, etc.....

I think I skipped that page in the owner's manual.

I've seen (rather, smelled) this before. It can be normal upon a new car being driven for the first times.

The Ford Escape I've got right now as a rental while my Focus spends an eternity in the shop had a strong burning smell at first (had 7km on it, brand new car).

Sigh... I should add I started looking at Focus after liking the new Dodge DART but heard similar problems (burning smell, won't upshift, won't accelerate, etc) on the Dart.

I have been driving manual for 20+ years but wife really wants an automatic. We found CVT annoying, and DCTs seem problematic (well, ironically the problem-plagued VW happens to have a decent DCT, seemingly).

Now I can see why Honda is sticking to its dated automatic tranny.

To clarify the Escape no longer has a burning smell a week later.
