Sleeping in a Focus hatchback

Hi all,

I'm 5'11" and would like to know how comfortably I could sleep in the back of a Focus (2011-2012) hatchback, when the seats are down. Does anyone have experience with this? Does a blow up twin mattress fits back there?

Thanks!

Sleeping in a car is never "comfortable" a twin mattress will not fit with the hatch close. The entire length of the car is 14', with the rear seats flattened, I'd guess you are looking at well less than 5'. The flattened area isnt 100% flat/level and the spare tire cover is not solid either(as in you will feel the spare to some extent and notice where the back seat is folded)

It will be fine in a pinch with some pillows/sleeping bag but not comfortable to where you will want to sleep more than one night there, possibly better off just curling up on the rear seats

edit, i typed this out for mk1.5...not sure on how the mk3 compares..basic ideas might be the same

I laid down in one at the dealership and seemed to fit diagonally. I may go back again, but figured I'd ask here too. Perhaps folks out there have some tips.

Curl up on the rear seat vs having a much wider and longer space with seats down? I'd take the seat down and hatch space any day over the rear seat.
If you planned it well you could take off the rear seat bottom which folds up (easy few bolts).. and then move the front passenger seat as far forward as it can go... Add in some sort of support at gap behind passenger front.. Sleep diagonally so your head is up behind passenger front.. I bet you would fit well enough
An air mattress would fit in there even if it was not perfect fit.
cover the rear and hatch windows for some privacy

MK3's must be more comfortable then, my mk1.5 is hard and lumpy when I've tried it and still too short.

Maybe in Mexico...

OP: Are you planning on living in your car or otherwise sleeping in it every night? Camping?
