Are you serious? Isn't the FL1A a lot bigger? I think I used a FL1A on my 1985 Ford truck.

Damn right it is. FL1A dwarves the FL2005.

Can you get 5 qts of oil in instead of 4.5 with the FL1A?

It is just over 4.5 IIRC

I always run just under the full mark.

Probably like 4.7 or something with the FL1A. I wish they would've engineered the extra .5 capacity in the pan.

...but I keep saving those .5 quarts at every oil change, so eventually I'll get a free oil change from myself lol.

So is the FL1A for SVT only or can it work on the regular zetec? Just curious.

It can fit on anything with the same thread pitch basically, so should be fine on the zetec.

I'm wondering if the ford racing FL1A filter is similar to mobil1 of k&n? I get either of the latter changing.

Yes, fits the zetec. The filter rubs a machined boss further out that is made using the same cut that machines the register flat for the filter. Meaning depending on whose FL1 you use, some will rub on outer edge and some won't. Depends on how the filter is made on the open end, the seam vs. height of seal. Even ones that rub WILL WORK, I just use a strap wrench to tighten the filter a little further past the rubbing to get filter good and tight. Pick correct filter and no rubbing at all. Fram and Microgard (Fram painted black) WILL rub, thinking Motorcraft doesn't.

The Fram info referenced to earlier as too old, is still pertinent, they still use cardboard end plates, or garbage. The O'Reilly's people were/are hopping all over to try to retrain workers to brainwash customers that cardboard 'was not bad in filters', their training videos specifically address it. Their Microgard filter line is Fram, painted black.
