"One key way to get better mpg (if you are desparate) is to tailgate semitrailer trucks."
Elizabeth--almost lost a mouthful of my Starbucks dark roast with that one. Thanks for the chuckle.

I wouldn't do that honestly, some of the stuff they suggest is a bit extreme IMO

Yes, glad no serious injury. I even get nervous the couple of times I shift into neutral and let it coast. Always afraid I will go to far, or go the opposite way and drop it into LOW.

45mpg at 70+ might be unrealistic. The most I have gotten is 43.1mpg at 55mph on cruise, completely flat road. At 70 I get 37mpg when cruising on the flat interstate.

Am I correct that these numbers are from a "non mod" car?

It may be possible but that probably best case conditions. As soon as you have to stop or get into some stop lights thats all out the window...

Only looking to achieve on HWY. I get my "avg" will be less. Ford states 37 on hwy, 40 with some hubcaps. So I am thinking 45 is within reach. Car is suppose to arrive this week, so my experiment will begin shortly - I hope! Come on Ford, just load her up and get her out here already!!!

WE have a 2006 that we get a reliable 44-45 mpgs hiway at 65 mph. The car is 100% stock with 60,000 on the clock. No special anything. I keep the tires at max pressure as listed on the sidewall and drive a steady speed. I can beat the cruise control for fuel mileage. Learn to coast and to anticipate hills is how to do it. One of the radio guys here had a new one that claimed 45-46 mpgs at 75mpg so it's possible. On these critters I think the tires are one of the most important parts for good mpgs. Keep a premium set on for the mileage. Ours came with Generals. When we swapped to Bridgestone Pole Positions, the mileage went up but ride went down and they were noisy. We're now running Yokohamas and the ride is back, the car is quiet, and the mileage is still there.

You have the trim that has the best chance at achieving that, but the EPA estimate is generous to start with.
