Please tell me where you get this information that it is closely regulated and controled ?
Please read this
"Octane: A minimum octane for E85 is not specified. FFVs can tolerate the lower octane of
gasoline, i.e. 87 (R+M)/2. The RFA recommends that the octane not be posted because of
variations and testing expense. There is no requirement to post octane on an E85 dispenser. If a
retailer chooses to post octane, they should be aware that the often cited 105 octane is incorrect.
This number was derived by using ethanol’s blending octane value in gasoline. This is not the
proper way to calculate the octane of E85. Ethanol’s true octane value should be used to
calculate E85’s octane value. This results in an octane range of 94-96 (R+M)/2. These
calculations have been confirmed by actual octane engine tests

From here http://ethanolrfa.3cdn.net/4eea401b7..._nrm6bhv0i.pdf

Most places wont take it less then e75 , how are most places going to check it , they dont care if its e75 most places dont even own the fuel pumps , fusl tanks or how to even check it , when I showed the owner of one station e69 was what he had he said so , it isnt my stuff i put in what they send me take it up with ????? the owners of the fuel pumps and tanks

e85 is garbage , it is totaly unregulated in its octane and rarely from my testing has it been 95 octane or e85 and a few just under 92 , do you really want to add timing to an engine with its octane 92 maybe the next fill up 94 then maybe the next fill up full of water and 93 octane

"e" fuels have a VERY SHORT shelf life , please read and look more into efuels before you use them or tune for them

Have you ever tested e85 from the pump and seen 103-104 octane because no one else that has tested its octane has even the people that make it for the pump dont claim those octanes , once posted on the pumps if the fuel in taht pump is not with in a small % either way the fines are very very high

On top of that this last trip home just out of curiosity I tested the local e85 with my handy pocket tester and it was e78 at one place e83 at another and e69 at another , whats this doing to your octane ?

What drops the e # long shelf life , water mixed in from long shelf life , condensation , not mixxed properly because no one is ever checking it because it is unregulated and goes unchecked unlike like all other fuel sold in the US

Get off your soapbox and read what I typed again.

I said the corn fuel is MIXED with gasoline that is on average 85 octane crap. I said nothing about final octane equivalency because it's not regulated.

20% less efficient is a farse, as well. If cars were getting only 20% less MPG from the fuel, why is no one reporting over 30mpg with it on a stock tune and we see 40+ mpg ravings on 87 or 93 all the time?

And who ever said e85 burns 30% hotter needs to read something it burns a lot cooler that's why people with boosted cars and higher compression cars are tuning on it mine was, look up dyna results link them and prove me wrong that e85 isn't legit

Just run e85 from the pump , have it tuned and you will have all the proof you need

A dyno of a car making good power with e85 proves nothing

Dont take anyones word , get a hand held tester that test the Alcohol # and see what you find in your area

Best way to solve all this is make your own then you know it is fresh and up to your specs on what octane and quality you want and constant...

It's all fun and games until you get arrested for running an illegal distillery by the feds. That is if you were also trying to skirt the law in registering and paying all due taxes on making the ethanol as a motor fuel, and not for intoxication purposes.

That is unless you were recommending that people buy the denatured alcohol separately and then try to blend it into whatever gasoline they want to use.
