2001 ZX3 Exhaust Hanger Rust Through. Dealership wants 600. What are your actual suggestions?

As the title suggestions. My muffler has rusted out of its hanger. Dealership guy showed me that because the hangers are welded on including all the pieces of the muffler, I would need to get it cut off and re-welded back on.

My car guy recommends just cutting it off and putting in an aftermarket OEM muffler with just clamps. Are these as reliable as the cut and weld or can I rely on my car guy to cut it and replace it for me?

the dealership just wants your money and to put it back to 2001 OEM standards to meet warranty stuff. go with the car guy. you can do that, or use this as an opportunity to put on an aftermarket exhaust system for less than the dealership wants for the muffler.

If your car was a 2010 then dealership is the way to go

BUT it is a 2001 and getting the work done by a good 'McGyver' is the way to go

So would just cutting it off and putting a new one on with a coupling separating it be sufficient?

If the muffler isn't bad, just have your guy weld the hanger back on. My rear hanger broke last week and it was a quick 2-minute weld job to fix it, no cutting required.
Well, maybe 10 minutes total, after cleaning the rust off both surfaces.
Much MUCH cheaper than $600.

It's been removed. Any suggestions on hangers like I linked to to replace the one that is gone?
