CAI/SRI Questions

I've been researching cold air intakes for a few days now. I have an 09 SE and I live in Connecticut (which adopted the CARB laws). I was going to buy the FSWerks system but they are not CARB exempt. My question is, I could either buy it put it on and then have to put the stock airbox back on before I go through emissions, or find a CARB legal intake. Is this correct or do I have other options?

Also, is this: http://www.amazon.com/69-3513TTK-Tex.../dp/B000VHL9XE a good option?

I'd find one thats carb exempt, w/ the sticker.

Yeah I figured that'd be easier, except it looks like I really only have on choice... Which seems to be that K&N. Or am I missing something?

Either way will work. I think FSWerks would be the best but you would have to swap the stock box in which is a bit of work when you go for testing.

Yeah I kind of want to avoid the whole disassembling and reassembling before emissions tests. Gives me more of a chance to lose something/mess something up. Is it worth it to save up the $250 for the K&N SRI? I've heard some great things and some meh. I'm hoping for a decent HP increase (at least 5-6), sound and possibly better gas mileage. From what I've seen SRIs can supposedly do all three, but since I'm limited as to what I can get, I figure I'll get screwed out of at least one.

After further research, this is what my state lists as they tests they run during emissions. http://ctemissions.com/frequently-as...ehicle-receive
Through these, could they tell I have a CAI? Sorry if they're not even related but I'm new to this stuff.

I don't see anything there that would tell them you have a CAI unless they look under the hood which i'm guessing they would do...

I almost pooped my pants when I read CT and CARB. jesus.

They will plug into your ODB2 port and scan for codes. Theyre supposed to check for a cat but most testers are way too lazy. No codes? Pass. Its that simple

There arent any mod-nazis scanning for stickers.

Again, I know very little about this stuff. So basically if all I do is install a CAI, I should be okay? Is there anyway I can make it look stock? hahah. I'm still trying to figure out what all the people who have CAIs in my state do...

Yes you will be fine. Worst case is they will "fail" you and you can put the stock box back on but that will not happen. Go try it and let us know what happens. I am 95% sure you will pass.
