SS lines seizing up?

I have had stainless steel brake lines on my car for a while now, but it seems to be causing a steering issue.

When I use full lock or close to it, the line gets snagged in the strut bracket and doesn't want to slide through it easily. I guess all the dirt thats built up is causing this.

I read somewhere that having the brake line connected to the strut isn't necessary, and is only there to ease the assembling process of the car. I'm not sure if the same is true for the Focus.

Just wondering if it's ok to disconnect the brake line from the strut and drive around like that?

Thanks FF

Edit: sorry wrong subforum.
