center console help

I am swapping to a custom console. The custom console has a 12v source (cig lighter) added to the front of it.

Under my stock console, there is a black, plastic frame piece. I dont know what this piece actually does. It is mounted to the car, not the console.

The 12v plug on the new console interferes with this frame piece. The frame piece is thin and flimsy. Can I remove this frame piece or maybe notch it so the new console will fit?

You should be able to notch it. Are you installing an SVT console?

MTX or Automatic? There is a plastic component that I believe the shifter screws to. Or it could be the cupholders. If its right in front of the shifter, that's it. I havent taken my cetner console out for a few weeks so I'm a bit foggy on it right now lol.

not an SVT....and its not what the cupholders screw to. Its a hollow frame from the dash back to about the ebrake. I am going to notch it.

The console is an LED, carbon fiber dipped piece.

Thanks gentlemen.

Sounds like one from ardst(spelling?). That's why I haven't put mine in. Want to add the led accents and dip the whole thing. Planning on trying to dip it myself :)

Got any pics of yours?

That plastic piece that's interfering is more than likely the HVAC vents that go to the back seat. If you cut a hole in it, you'll get no air in the rear. Take pics to verify, so we can help. I installed an SVT console in my non-SVT with no problem, it has a power outlet in the front as well. I would like to see what you are talking about

Probably is that. He has a modified console that might possibly have the port in a slightly diff location from the SVT one. Also he has an 05.

That's exactly what it is. There will be no notching. This is not an svt console. I will probably cut the HVAC duct and run a flex hose or eliminate the 12v source.
