not 100% sure... i decked the block till i got the piston .007 below the deck.
didn't pay attention to how much was actually removed.

on the head i surfaced it till it was smooth and true. again not sure how much..

i am using a zetec head gasket.

im telling you it was sooooo very close.
i bet if i had used .010 thicker gasket it would have cleared....

long over do for a update:

I have hit a series of snags along the way. tom as well as jim on here have been VERY helpful. basicly got it on the dyno started dialing it in. power was pittaful. (160 wheel)

spent DAYS playing with tune and cam timing to no avail. jim suggested a leakdown test. so I thought sure why not. well discovered

1: 20%
2: 9%
3: 9%
4: 13%

cylinder 1 and 4 leaking out the intake valves. so the guy that ported my head messed up something in the valve job.

jim had a cylinder head that tom had ported a long time ago so I grabbed that and spent about 6 hours swaping heads over and redoing valve lash.

leakdown is now:
1: 9%
2: 9%
3: 9%
4: 9%

put it back on the dyno and dialed in the cam timing again and im semi happy its up to 170 wheel. so im going in the right direction at least

the car does still have the completely stock exhaust other than a high flow cat.
and also im still using these super cold plugs so next thing I am going to tackle is getting the proper plug in it to see how much that helps.

I forgot about this.

Any progress to report?

Having more compression than me and the same fuel, I'd expect you to make more power ... but could be dyno variation easily. We're pretty close and I'd expect you to make more.

What does your spark table look like?

Here's mine:

*note the scaling*

Been running pretty close to the same table for a long while now. Have tried little adjustments here and there but really didn't feel (not dyno) any changes.

But keep in mind I don't have VCT. That will make a big change in timing.

Don't get me wrong, you're making nice power. It's just I think there's much more in it. Or I sure hope there is.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I simply cannot fathom what would possess you to put a stock exhaust system behind this engine and expect anything more than disappointing or mediocre numbers, it's mystifying. Exhaust is clearly not your entire issue, but I'm shocked that someone with as much apparent technical knowledge as yourself would leave such a blaring oversight.

The person that specifically stated a few posts ago that they had stock exhaust on their car.

Post #82. Would you like me to print it out and mail it to you? It might take a day or two to have it notarized before it hits the mail.

Ah, I skimmed right over it.

No matter though. Stock SVT isn't really any restriction. It's large enough piping for power and the mufflers aren't going to hinder power much.
Yes free flowing helps, but it's not a 30hp bottleneck. Maybe 5hp is all a guy'd see.
