Where's the originality?

My post is about what I will refer to as cookie cutter cars. Now let me get this out the way. I appreciate a nice clean OEM build, love it. I just dont think that everyone should do it. Now granted, I dont see as much of that here on this forum. Probably why I'm here and not on the other one. Too many cookie cutters there, that and on facebook. If you dont have a stock car your stupid is basically how it works. I ask, where has the originality gone? Every now and then I see some cars that are truly different and I love it, Hell thats why I got into the focus scene. All my friends were building hondas or chevrolet trucks, me being a die hard Ford guy I forged my own path. And to date I'm the only one I know of in my area touring the show circuit with an MK2 focus. Anywho, lets see some post on my thread, I wanna see some pics. Show me your different focus. I like different, hell my motto is dare to be different. Different doesnt have to be bad. Thats my main point Im trying to get across here.

i'd say the originality has gone to performance. For the most part, the F&F days are over...thank God. Of course you still have VIP scene, but for the most part, you see it in handling, power, or both. Either way you go, gotta make sure your originality doesn't turn into "rice". haha ... but in the end "to each their own".. do what makes you happy.

Very few custom cars are really all that unique, almost every custom mod is copying somebody else's idea, repeat ad nauseum.

Unless you fabricate parts yourself, you are just getting a "unique" combination from the same buffet of parts everybody else does.

Before the inevitable stance versus function fight...just let me ask:

Different? Touring the show circuit?

My friend, it looks like you have an FRPP drop, some plastidipped stock wheels, and a stress bar. That's not outrageously different or daring.

You won't find that many non-"cookie cutter" cars here, because most of us DD our cars. But here's a few names you should know if you want "different":

Rudel
drunkenmonkey
Coswagon (forgot his username)
BroncoBoy80
bestthaticoulddo (before he sold his Focus)
...and numerous FJers.

We are not the Vortex, StanceNation, or 8thGen. We mod our cars, but most of us don't want to draw a large amount of attention to our cars. Hell, if I wanted attention, I'd go buy a red Civic...and cry when it gets stolen two weeks later.

My personal rule in modding is not to be different for difference's sake. I try to do things that look good which happens to be what another million other owners are also striving for. If there are multiple cars that look like mine, that's ok with me. All I know is that my car is the way I want it and I love it.

Different?
So you like posers? (a 2010 with SVT stickers, really?)

A drop, stripe and random blue parts doesn't make original. Not in the least.
So I could ask you the same question.

My car is quire original as it's the only Focus I know of built like it is. And it's no show car.

Yes Rudels car is a perfect example of what I'm shooting for here. Love that car. I have a little more going on than you first notice however, not here to defend my car. Thats not where I was getting with this. No stripe on my car, thats an old ass pic and I have coilovers, yes I can obviously go way lower just havent done so. And I could really go on and on. Really could. Sure I may have what could be considered cookie cutter parts I suppose, SES bumper and grill, check, all fswerks underhood parts, check. But you get my point. As one person stated unless your fabbing your parts you can never truly be unique except for a unique combinations of the parts. I have big plans, hell that mk2 that I seen a while back that had the over fenders was just plain cool imo. Thats the kind of stuff thats neat. I tour a lot of the local mini truck themed shows with my car, and pull ideas from there. Sometime next year I plan to suicide my rear doors and have the rear handles relocated closer to the front of the door. Think how the Rolls Royce phantom doors are done except mine is a ford focus lol. But thats the only vehicle off hand I can think of that is like that. Basically thats the stuff I'm striving for. Who else has done that to their focus? Someone has I'm sure. Ive seen a few with shaved handles and such. There are a few bagged foci rolling around I'm sure, I find bags cool, and different in our community. I'm not asking for rice, but rather different.

And yeah sure I have SVT decals. But I got the performance to back it up, sadly Ford never did anything with the MK2s. Other than the SES but its not performance, maybe in looks but thats about all. I should probably add more photos to my album, that way I dont look like a complete jackass with this post. Ill try and add some now. I have a good bit going on, and a whole boat load more planned, my focus is not my dd so I can play with it a bit, sadly money currently limits me. As it does most of us I'm sure
