How long would you expect to keep your Focus if you did all the things you want to do with it? Knowing that and the fact you will lose money on any parts you install on the car, what makes the most sense to you?

I would spend money on suspension and intake/exhaust and then see if you like the car more. Spending money there will make the car noticeably more fun to drive. May not be fast but an improvement and might keep you from spending serious money.

From a logical standpoint, absolutely not. The only cars that are technically 'worth' dumping $10k into, are ones whose value increases by that much (or more) after you've done so. I would consider you incredibly lucky if the value of your Focus would go up by even half as much as you put into it. But if modifying your Focus is your passion and you have the money to burn, then by all means let your irrational side take over.

However you could also buy a nicely setup and maintained already-turbocharged Miata for less than $10k, and still keep your Focus...Just sayin'.

No Focus is worth dumping $10,000 into.

Upgrade to the FRPP suspension, sway bars, Tom's Tune, and put another 70k miles on it. That's less than $1000 and will make the car a hoot to drive.

I don't know any heavily modified Focus owners that are happy. Their cars never run right, they never get to drive them. When they do, they have to baby it. The spending never stops because it's always having issues. The level of satisfaction for the turbo guys seems pretty low.

However, the guys that just do light modifications, like Mac mentioned, are pretty happy guys. Good return on investment (fun) with large changes in how the car drives with minimal investment or fussing. Suspension mods are affordable, easy to install, and are instantly apparent.

I just don't see the joy of spending $5k plus on modifications that make the car unreliable, fickle, and still slower than a V6 Mustang.

To be clear, it's slower than a *new* V6 Mustang
My car is way quicker to 60 stock-for-stock than my old V6 Mustang was.

Oh you know I would, but I'm putting it towards a Fiesta ST instead.

I should have clarified. I came from a 2012 V6 6MT Mustang. I have serious doubts most of these turbo guys are even cracking out of the 14's.

the focus is worth putting money into if and only if you have a true passion for doing something thats outside the norm.

if you wanna be like every other guy out there yes go buy a evo sti type car. if you wanna do something unique. mod your focus.

My weekend warrior is a POS, my Focus just has taste mods. Rim's, sound, tint, and a few black outs. Its stock motor wise down to the air box filter and would never touch anything. (Besides the tune)

I have a 11 second car that has less then 5k dumped into it including the original price. Sure it has its qwerks, like sometimes it doesn't read the key, but its a helluva a lot better then constantly breaking stuff on my daily.
