Try it and let us know.

My experience is that it does not cure the underlying DCT issues like grinding and slipping, but it does fix the throttle lag, improves low end power, and diminishes those DCT symptoms that were exacerbated by poor low end power like some of the herking and jerking at low speed.

The underside could be hard to get at, but the large and deep rubber support for the intake tubes may do a decent job of sealing there. I'd suggest just doing the top and see if you notice a difference.

If this helps, I'm sure there are plenty of ways to effect a more permanent and, um, professional fix than duct tape. For now, this is a really, really cheap and quick test.

As this leak is upstream of the air filter, I imagine this would not cause the same symptoms as you noticed in your BMW. I suspect the issue here is drawing in hot engine compartment air at idle with a too-quick transition to cooler air when the throttle is opened. The PCM can adjust to changes in intake air temp, but not instantly. And with active grille shutters and the bottom "aeroshield" underhood temps on the Focus probably get pretty high.

I can tell you for sure that my ECU left the school building when I turned on the AC and any time I had extra passengers. It never did "learn".

only time it worked right was cold weather.

Perhaps a better description would be "default the ECM". It doesn't hurt a thing, and it would seem to make sense when you're trying any A/F mod.

I am a believer in this mod. I have had it in-place now for a few days and can vouch for the smoother launch at high temps. This is one of the only concerns I've had with my June 2011 MFD Focus and it IS now what I expected the 2.0 w/DCT to be all along.

My step-by-step procedure was:

1) Fix the induction tube, clean and re-oil K&N DIF
2) Drive/Test (results were: smoother launch, smoother idle, lower tone of induction system under throttle)
3) Reset ECM
4) Drive/Test (results were: firmer shift points, higher RPM between 1-2, 3-4 shifts)
5) Run throttle calibration process (described previously)
6) Drive/Test (results were: couldn't tell any difference)
7) Reset gas mileage calculation to test for gain/loss (will post results later)

I too am a believer in this mod. After throwing on some grill pin stipe flair: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...&postcount=259, I thought, why not service the drop in (it wasn't all that dirty but it had been 28K since I installed it) and work the simple intake gap seal fix (mine was about 5mm as well).

What struck me initially was the deeper induction tone ... cool! My car is over 36,000 miles now and her habits are quite familiar to me. I was a doubting Thomas a little on this one, but what the heck, I've got tape and stuff galore. Just like most others, my shifting, while not all that bad anyway in Maine's cooler temps, is improved and throttle response at low rpm's is better too. Kudos to Dan50 ... whooda thunk it!!!
