I think fixing this unintended gap is a very good idea. The design intended drawing air from further away, undoubtedly to draw cooler air.

Car enthusiasts worldwide install and benefit from cold air intakes along the same reasoning.

I wonder if this should get stickied or put into a 'things to do to your car' post. It has definitely helped my car run better.

i've been following this thread since its start and understand that many of you have this 'gap', i, however, on my '12 don't.... i'm , but guess i shouldn't be, amazed at the inconsistencies of build quality of our cars.

Had my gap taped for over 10k miles and I don't believe it has made any difference at all.

I taped mine up, but it's kind of moot now considering my air filter box doesn't even close because some schmuck at the alignment shop over-tightened the screws and cracked the hubs on the lower 1/2 of the box. I should have just put a K&N filter sticker on there...

My late-build '13 had about a 2-3mm gap on the big tube on the outboard side. A little Gorilla Tape fixed it right up, and it should theoretically last longer than duct tape.

Not much but I do have a gap.. Gonna tape it up at work tomorrow and share my results, if any, after a few hundred miles.

I do experience a little launch lag BUT I've never paid attention to ambient temps to say when it happens most. Its often, though, mostly in stop-go traffic.

2012 Ti
Build date: May 2012

2012 Ti
Build date: Aug 2012 (I think?)

Do you mean August 2011? August 2012 would be a 2013 model year.
