Thumbs up "Tape" fix

Been lurking for a few months, and was finally compelled to join in order to thank all of those who posted pictures and directions regarding the tape fix on the air intake.

Acquired my 2012 SEL automatic in February (it was new but unsold) and suffered the same afflictions with the throttle response issue so widely mentioned. To be honest, the car was never really fun to drive after realizing pretty quickly that the problem wasn't going away. Took it to dealer, the "couldn't replicate" my complaint. Figured oh well.

Finally looked into the fix described in this thread and went through the motions; upon releasing the rubber cover found a gap in the main intake larger than any I've yet seen in the photos posted above. Grabbed some black duct tape (sorry, AutoZone out of penguins) and all of one minute later had a much-improved vehicle. Sharper shifts, more power, and confidence-inspiring in a way the car never was. Night and day.

Thanks so very much for the info, all!

Thanks. Will seek feedbacks...

I originally posted that my TDCi engine does not have the inlet duct/pipe by mistake (I don't know what I was smoking that day), I think I am going to give it a shot myself too.

Going on vacation, though. So will not be able to work on this till week of 10/7.

Just spent about a half hour reading through the entire post! I think I learned more from this thread than I did in high school
Gonna check to see if I have a gap tomorrow and go from there. Hopefully I have some fancy tape like the rest of you

A little chime in here, forgot to post this. I took out the intake resonator the other day, when I threw everything back together the gap was virtually gone. Just thought I'd throw that in here.

Did you notice any change in how it drove?

I'm still amazed by what a different car mine feels like with a small amount of duct tape.

After the tape or the intake resonator? To be honest, I didn't feel any noticeable change. But you can definitely hear it over 2600RPM's. Increased intake noise.

Taped my gap a few days ago.. seemed to help a little with launches and the dct. If anything a minor improvement so far.
