Focus Tracking Thread

Let's get a place together where we can exchange tips, tricks and anything relevant to open track days and road course events.

For those that have already taken out their Focus on a few track days, what tire setup, pressures and impressions did you take away from it?

I have used Toyo Ra1’s typically I shoot for 40psi hot. I’m now running the RR’s and shoot for the same pressure but I only have one day with them on the car at this point.

The helmet has a special meaning for many drivers. How important is it to you? - It protects my head.

Do you have any special rituals when the helmet is concerned like many have? - I wipe it so that I can see better.

I've heard great things about RA1's, but typically have always been used to NT01's, and more recently have been sticking to RS3's from Hankook - a really, really great tire that's easily streetable too.

For me a big factor was going with a 15” tire and being SM and SSM run toyo is helps keep the price down.

I have running kumho on a dedicated Scca Ita car for 3 years. Forced to use 16" wheels due to the rules. Kumho 215 /40 for the first two years. Terrible tire failures which included the Tire Rack getting involved. Moved to the newer gen 215/45 series tire and running much higher starting pressures to avoid tire failure. Very good results with the newer series. Remember pressure is important but using a tire temp gauge is so important for more exact results. We corner weight prior to each event, camber is also a very important part of the equation.
