One of the few times I'm glad I bought a new gen first model year.
I hate that too. I'd have liked to have had the electronic climate control. But in order to get that you have to get MFT. BUT, in order to have THAT you have to have another option group totaling thousands of dollars! Ridiculous!

It sounds like I lucked out on my '12. I got exactly what I wanted, down to the color - electronic climate control, moonroof, but no MFT (negative feedback here). It doesn't look like you can be as picky now...

Yeah. You can on the fiesta! I optioned one up with the climate contol and stuff the way I wanted. But when I test drove the Fiesta it wasn't for me. Noisy, cramped interior. Focus was a much better ride so I went with that. You know, I would've even done MFT+Climate, but why do I need the leather package or titanium trim levels and stuff to get it? Why can't an SE Sport be equipped with MFT/Climate without additional crap?

Not that climate control is a deal breaker by any means. But, it would've been nice to have and seems to be a reasonable option on the car if not for all of these silly and completely unrelated packages you have to have. My GUESS is, they are looking at the future used car market; and their gurus have determine what configurations will sell a few years down the road if you trade it in on another Ford and the dealer has to sell yours. But that's just a guess. Maybe some wouldn't buy a MFT/Climate equipped focus with cloth seats and a manual transmission! (Like mine would have been equipped).

Besides what's been said earlier, the 2012 Sport package was a better deal than the 2014 Sport package in two ways:

The 2012 Sport Package also got you the shiny piano black grille panels.

While the 2014 Sport Package gets you gunmetal alloys in place of silver alloys, the 2012 package got you silver alloys in place of steel wheels with hub caps.

Just my opinion.

Does that really make it a better deal though? There's more bang for the buck on the SE platform now than before since 'real wheels' are available on lower trim levels and packages.

Honestly, I still think it's worth it just for the rear disc; though that should really be standard!

Agreed, I can tell a substantial braking difference between my wife's '13 and my '14 w/sport package not to mention how much better rear disks look (a lot easier to change on down the road too). IMO, you cannot go wrong with the Sport Package. I do wish the grille was gloss black instead of textured.

I do notice you do not see a lot of SE's with the painted rims that the sport package offers. Actually, I have only found one other white SE online with those wheels. I like the way those wheels break up the white. That was actually what made me go with white along with the other reasons mentioned earlier. It seems that you see more with the Appearance Package than the Sport Package, either way, they both look good.

I agree with what you guys are saying about how the manufacturers "stack" packages so that you have to get this just to get that. It would be a lot simpler if you could just order what you want.

My 2014 SE Sport Black Pack came in today. I went to have a look at it and noticed a few changes, mostly interior.
On the exterior I noticed the tires on the black wheels are now cooper zeon rs3a (all season)

That's different to me as my 2013 SE Sport Black Pack came with Continental all season tires. So did all the other ones that were in the lot. Guess different batchesfor different days
