Top Gear Tests Focus ST wagon

A Focus ST estate with a special 1275 Mountune pack that increases the turbo'd four cylinder's power from 247bhp to 271bhp and 265lb ft to 295lb ft. Because it's been given the nod by blue oval bosses, you keep your original warranty, too. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/f...-myzs.facebook

I know Ford has done the research and all, but I think the wagon even in base form should be offered in the US market. I work at a dealership and as a tech I only buy used cars with higher mileage, but I would definitely buy a new Focus in wagon form, and would be tempted by this Mountune package! I love the new ST but I want the room of a wagon!

What is the weight of the wagon relative to the hatch?

Wait, only 60 pounds more? That's hard to believe...from the picture above, it looks like the chassis/body parts alone would be way more than that.

According to the spec sheet it's a mere 24 KG heavier as listed on pages 54-55.

http://www.ford.co.uk/Hidden/iBrochure/Focus

ST 5-door hatchback weighs in at 1437 kg, the Estate at 1461 kg, that's a delta of just 24 kg or 52.9 lbs more. It's also 8.03" longer than the Hatchback (Overall length of the hatch is listed as 4362 mm (171.73") vs 4566 mm for the estate (179.76"). The extra metal is not really as much as it looks like however.

Wow, does that mean the performance is similar to the regular ST? If so, I'd rather have had the estate, since this is basically a compromise car for me anyway.

Moot point now, though. I've already got mine, and finished falling in love with it.

Yeah the ST estate is maybe a tenth or two slower at most, but it's not like it's a boat anchor on the 2.0 L EcoBoost engine.
