2013 Focus ST Oil Analysis

I thought I'd share what Blackstone is reporting for my ST. I'm no expert on oil analysis, so I welcome any comments/opinions. The first one would be the analysis of the factory fill, which I changed at 3,544 miles. The second one would be the analysis of Mobil 1/5w-30/Full Synthetic, which I changed at 10,028.

Makes me wanna change mine when it hits 3500 and go full synthetic. Idk about Mobil though, I'm gonna do my research first. Good informative post.

Mobil is top rated for your off the shelf oil. Before you start paying another 3+dollars a quart or more. I put Mobil 1 5w-30 in my car and it seems fine, the next change i'm going to use their 0w-30.

I'm buying the Motorcraft 5W-30 Full Synthetic by the case from Steve @ Tousley. It's relatively inexpensive and it's what Ford recommends!

Interesting report. It appears that the factory fill was an Xw-20 oil. I can assure you it didn't shear that much in just 3500 miles. The 2.0 Ecoboost is a far better engine in regards to beating up the oil over that of it's 3.5 V6 cousin. While a decent report, it's not outstanding and you can do better. The Motorcraft oils will give better results as will any of the Conoco-Phillips oils like Kendall, Motorcraft, 76, and Phillips 66. Another good one will be Chevron but it's a hard find these days. I'd change at 8500 miles regardless of usage or base type oil.
When buying a new car or a new engine, it's always a good idea to change oil and filter at 1500 miles, then again at 3000 miles. There's a significant amount milling debris that remains in the engine until the oil flushes it out. You will also have significant amount of silica/silicone from the excess sealants that gets washed into the oil. It's best to just change oil rather than expect the filter to remove it. Most filters are rated at multi-pass, not single pass filtration. A particle of 40 microns can do damage to your engine. A micron is 1/1,000,000th of a meter.

Without TBN, (Total Base Number), test results being reported, there's really no way to make a reasonable recommendation for oil change intervals. TBN shows the ability of the oil to attack and neutralize contaminants in the oil from blowby gases, fuel, water, etc. Every other single aspect of the oil analysis report could look stellar, but if the TBN is low the oil needs to be changed immediately.
