Alternator Install

Got the old one out fine, putting the new one in and the bottom bolt just stops tightening with a 1/4 of it still hanging out of the alternator.

Not exactly sure why, I can tighten it with a ratcheting wrench just fine till then. If i try and go any tighter I think it's just going to break the bolt.

What gives? Should I have gotten new alternator bolts?

I believe the bottom of the alternator is a pass through on the front hole(serpentine belt side) and threaded on the back side. I suspect the alternator you got was not threaded all the way through causing your bolt to stop turning.

Hm, thats a valid point, theres no way that bolt was going through. Autozone took it back and will already have a new one for me by this afternoon. I'll test fit the bolts before I wedge it back into place.

Yes and no,

They gave me the wrong alternator twice. The first one someone else must have already screwed up because I was able to hand thread the bolts into the alternator, and they had it in stock which should have beent he first sign.

Took it back got the new one couldn't even hand thread the bolts in so I finally just looked up the part number myself and took it to them to order me the right one. They kept giving me a normal focus alternator.

It's all back together and running again. The belt install was kind of a pain.

Even though this problem was resolved I am still going to put this in the "General Technical Chat".
