Well at least they got rid of the joker face design which totally sucked. The rear end though looks like my neighbors Hyundai GT (or i30 across the pond). I wonder how many thieves will break in to the new 3 thinking that info screen is a gps or smartphone unit? Really stupid looking. Looks like a separate device that is sitting on top of the dash rather than part of the dash itself. I still think the Focus has the best dash design of any car in it's class.

The dash is a bit odd, but I like how it's not a touchscreen, you control with it a joystick dial (similar to what.. BMW? is doing now, one of the "luxury" brands anyway).

As for the focus dash design. cmon now.. some models, it looks good. But take the models where you have a million buttons on the dash under the screen? That's just bad design.

I don't mind the grille, it's better looking than the big smile. I like the dashboard- Mazda still has that big tach in your face which is something I loved in my old RX7. It will be a good car for whomever purchases it, and it's good competition for Ford. Ford is doing a good job, so this will only push them to make it better. The price is nice too, but I think those high fuel economy numbers were for the 2.0 not the 2.5. Numbers were not spec'd for both in that article. I'd have to do more research, but I am a fan of the SkyActiv approach as far as engines go.

You won't be seeing me in one, but that has nothing to do with how good or bad of a job Mazda does.

Motortrend's first drive of the suzuki kizashi concluded that it "is a solid value with enthusiast credentials"

And just to prove it is not a recent phenomenon, their first drive of the 2001 Olds Aurora describe it as a "a fun-to-drive, remarkably well-executed, sporty sedan that nicely balances the luxury-comfort and responsive-agile sides of the driving equation at a reasonable price" - must be a great car

How about a first drive of the Kia Sportage in 1998? "an affordable fun machine" Only negative comments? a small amount of wind noise, space, and a minor comment about the torque. this was the most negative first drive I saw, and it is a glowing review compared to the actual turds the old sportages are known to be.

I'm not saying the new 3 is not a good car, Ford might be falling behind, I don't know..... I am just saying, drive it yourself. don't take the word of a magazine whose bottom line depends on manufacturers providing cars for them to test drive.

A lot of people forget the Focus is an economy car that just happens to be fun to drive. Small cars often suffer from "bloat" . They tend to slowly tend to increase in size till they no longer serve their original mission. The Eclipse is a perfect example. It increased in size till it wasn't fun to drive anymore. There's always the ST if you need the performance.

I don't care for it. I think the front end still looks too long.

As a proud American who buys only American products when possible, the Mazda, nor any other foreign car, was never on my short list of cars.

My mazda6 topples in at a whopping 4300 pounds. You'd never guess from driving it. Amazingly agile and quick, the ride quality and handling are what only my focus can dream of. It was the best handling FWD car of 2004 after all.

Even my wife will say said she loves the way the car makes you feel when you drive. It great feed back, the grips awesome. She says its a drivers car, you don't just sit in it and drive you wear it.

The new mazda6 is under powered in my opinion, but ride and build quilty are top notch. I'm really looking forward to this new 3. Mazda has finally got their heads on right. I'm tired of seeing the last generation smiley face styling.
