2014 Mazda 3, Ford falling behind?

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...e/viewall.html

This article really made it sound like the new 3 will topple the Focus. The fact they offer a decent size engine in the base 3 is really nice too. Ford really needs to think about the 2.5L engine or 1.6T here for higher trims in the Focus. The auto with paddles sounds like it's a lot nicer than Ford's powershift, which also doesn't have paddles.

Mazda 3 2.5s 184hp/185tq, and nearly 40mpg. Food for thought.

You have to remember, it took Mazda this long just to catch up. Ford's been selling the current Focus since August 2011...

I'm almost positive the 1.6t will appear in the next Focus (Or one of the newer 2nd gen ecoboost engines)

Mazda ( like Honda) needs to discover the wonders of sound insulation.

They still have a great philosophy that balances great mpgs AND thrilling driving experiences with every model.

The fact that their base engine is what it is makes it seem like they're applying that philosphy to their trim levels, too.

that dumb regenreative braking stuff worries me. also why did the ymodel the fromt of the car to look like Fran Dresher. its got worse buck tooth syndrome than a beaver who hasnt ever chewed on anything. its a bit too eurotrash looking for my tastes. i remember when mazda front drivers were anonymous little cars that spoke with their actions more than looks.

Curb weight still rolls in at 3000 - 3100 lbs. Disappointing.

Every article I've read on it has said it's awesome. Jalop, MT, C&D, Automobile, etc. Not going to lie a very fast shifting auto with paddles and 185hp makes for a very nice DD, (compared to 160hp less tq and either an M5 or the powershift.)

Yes as others said the Focus has been out since 2011, but I'm guessing we won't see a refresh until 2016 model year, they do put the 1.6L in the car in Europe, so maybe we'll get lucky and they'll do that here.

I don't know, I think it may be a slight improvement over the crazy big smile think they've had going on for a little while, maybe..

eh? My 2005 Mazda3 has great sound insulation (as of the 2014 model, thats 2 generations old).

The old Civics were terrible at sound insulation but the current gens have improved immensely.
