I think there is a plastic lock button that keeps the locking portion of the latch from pulling to the right inadvertently. Find it and depress it and the latch should move right unimpeded.

I guess, because of the difficulties, you're referencing the harness for the gauge in the back? I dunno, elaborate or take a pic and we should be able to help you more.

The 6th picture down in the 1st post is the latch I believe he is referring to.



I am of this writing, going out to disassemble my gauge to do the swap. I just got my gauge faces in a couple of days ago.

Okay just got my gauge out. It was a little confusing removing the plug until I figured it out. Actually it is quite simple once you know how. Here are some clear pictures:

Looking down at the top of the partially removed cluster, you see the plug in the rear with the wires coming out to the left:

Okay, got my gauge face in .... finally. Nothing like trying to do work on the interior on a hot day in a parking lot with no shade.

My gauges don't stand out so much as some of the other designs I suppose as I went a more subtle route. I wanted something a bit different than stock, but something that also had an OEM look to it. I went with pearl sapphire blue, style #2 and had the Focus logo added to the tach. I originally wanted the Focus letters larger and lower, just above the pointer, but they said it would block the warning lights so they moved it up higher.



Never really noticed how cluttered the stock speedo gauge looked until compared with the Black cat one:

I put mine in once without the clear face on it and did a lot turning the car on and off to get the gauges to sit at zero. You have to turn it on, turn it off, make adjustments before the gauge test, then turn it on again to verify. Kind of tedious, but when you're done it will have been worth the time.

Yeah, I had a hard time too. our gauges are flakey. If you notice, when you turn your car off, the needles will go down to a postion. But then after your dome lights go off after 30 secs or so, the needles will AGAIN move to a park position. It sure helps that I have a scangauge~e so I can tell just what my RPM's are. Right now my speedo is +2 mph off, so I have to re adjust that. On a good note, my gas gauge is very nearly dead on, which it wasn't from the factory. I suggest that you DO NOT fill your gas tank then try to adjust the gas gauge if possible. That's because when the tank is full, the needle will go up past the full mark on the gauge. Worst comes to worst, when your orange (low gas) icon comes on, that should be the 1/8th mark on your gas gauge.

Thanks. They look even better on a sunny day. A little lighter and a bit of metallic sparkle to them. Took the pictures on a cloudy day and doesn't do them justice.
