It would be pretty stupid if you couldn't select 6th gear in manual mode.
I think the point was if you were letting it shift automatically in S mode you could then make the 5/6 shift with the toggle buttons. Of course, then you would have to make all gear selections manually. Easier just to shift to D to select 6 and back to S when needed.

I just find it engages to hard at higher rpms then the computer would downshift at.In a true manual your able to ease the clutch out downshifting at higher rpms and enjoy the aggressive driving. The computer reengages the clutch at lower rpms because it doesn't have a foot I suppose..
Which = buzz kill in the downshift dept. But thats what manual trannys are for

Hi everyone.

In the 3rd printing of the Owners Guide, p. 181 outlines how S (Sport) mode works and how to best operate the SelectShift Automatic Transmission.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

S mode just gives you more neck snapping out of the craptastic DCT.

To summarize: When you put the transmission into S mode, and do not press the up or down shift button, the transmission will shift more aggressively for you. If you press the up or down shift button in S mode, a gear light will appear on the instrument cluster, notifying you that the vehicle is expecting you to shift - notably, the computer will override and shift for you, if you over-rev'

Just a caveat here.....when using manual shift and wearing sun glasses, ESP polarised ones, it is very difficult to see the shift points on the monitor ( or anything on the monitor ) as ford chose to not use bright , clear writing and , instead had translucent greyish white letters on the darker background resulting in it all washing out when wearing sun glasses.
