On Saturday I'll be buying my fourth 2013 Focus. Titaniums for my daughter, my wife, and my mother-in-law, and an ST for me. Regarding income, I have MD and JD degrees. Also, I've watched every single episode of Top Gear UK twice. Any questions?

2. The side bolsters on the Recaro seat that hold me so snugly on tight turns make ingress/egress more difficult, and can even nail the family jewels until you get used to it.

- I bet if you're fat, it's even worse.

3. What were they thinking when they put the foglight button immediately adjacent to the rear hatch release?? I don't want to be getting out on a foggy roadside to close the rear door.

- It's the one on the top.

4. Why couldn't I have the backup camera and more importantly, the bumper proximity sensors that come with the Titanium?

- You have a rear view mirror, right?

5. No auto-dimming rear view mirror? Every other car I've had in the last 20 years had that, and I miss it.

- Oh, I guess so.

6. Most of those cars also had built-in Homelink for the garage door...but the Focus doesn't.

- I don't see this as a problem on what is basically a fancy Escort.

7. Only a 12 gallon gas tank on a car that averages 26 mpg? I can drive both my Prius and Pontiac Montana minivan over 500 miles on a tank; only 300 with the ST.

- You have a Prius? Ewww.

8. The AM radio is "HD". I suppose this should be a plus, but it happens that my favorite station is a bit far, and it keeps randomly switching between HD and regular audio, which sounds weird.

- Only lame people listen to AM. I listen to AM, so I should know.

9. The front license plate looks awkward in the middle of the grill.

- Take it off.

10. It seems I have to pop off the rear seat headrests to get them to lie flat, and fold the rear seat bottoms forward first. Extra effort that could have been avoided with a better design.

- I'm with you on this one.

11. I find it hard to steer with my knees as they keep hitting the levers for cruise resume and voice command.

- You're not supposed to steer with your knees, only your hands.

12. I wish there was an option to show a digital speed readout and an indication of which gear I'm in on the info screen. Why would they think the status of my car key is more important than that?

- Just look down at your shifter. Or put your hand on it.

2. The side bolsters on the Recaro seat that hold me so snugly on tight turns make ingress/egress more difficult, and can even nail the family jewels until you get used to it. I had no problem and liked the secure feeling.

3. What were they thinking when they put the foglight button immediately adjacent to the rear hatch release?? I don't want to be getting out on a foggy roadside to close the rear door. I can turn on the foglights while I'm stopped and can look at the dash until I get used to it. There are twice as many buttons on the ST compared to my SES, so I'll have a learning curve anyway.

4. Why couldn't I have the backup camera and more importantly, the bumper proximity sensors that come with the Titanium? My other vehicle is a F-150 and I've towed/backed 24 foot trailers; I'll take a chance.

5. No auto-dimming rear view mirror? Every other car I've had in the last 20 years had that, and I miss it. I do kind of like that feature, but the ST has other ways of dealing with tailgaters with bright headlights - LOL.

6. Most of those cars also had built-in Homelink for the garage door...but the Focus doesn't. I don't have a garage!

7. Only a 12 gallon gas tank on a car that averages 26 mpg? I can drive both my Prius and Pontiac Montana minivan over 500 miles on a tank; only 300 with the ST. I'll try to control my right foot; I'm getting 34-35 daily with the SES rated at 33 hwy.

8. The AM radio is "HD". I suppose this should be a plus, but it happens that my favorite station is a bit far, and it keeps randomly switching between HD and regular audio, which sounds weird. That's okay, I don't just listen to the radio in the morning.

9. The front license plate looks awkward in the middle of the grill. I'm sure one of the aftermarket outlets can help me with this, my friend relocated the front plate on his ZR1.

10. It seems I have to pop off the rear seat headrests to get them to lie flat, and fold the rear seat bottoms forward first. Extra effort that could have been avoided with a better design. I'll deal with it. Probably won't fold seats too often; see "my other vehicle is an F150."

11. I find it hard to steer with my knees as they keep hitting the levers for cruise resume and voice command. One reason I want this car is to drive it, not as a rolling office, café, etc. so feet are for pedals and hands are for steering and shifting.

12. I wish there was an option to show a digital speed readout and an indication of which gear I'm in on the info screen. Why would they think the status of my car key is more important than that? I wanted one of these when I was 12, when I got my license at 16 I drove "3 on the tree", 4 speeds, trucks with granny gears, etc. I'll cope.

That's pretty much it so far. And when you compare that list with all the positives the car offers, you can see why so many people rave about it.
I really want one of these! If not now, in the near future.

I found the antidote. Performance blue ST3. I know - pictures or it didn't happen. It's dark out; went straight from the dealer to Jenros, a popular Saturday night cruise-in in Virginia Beach.

What is there to say but congratulations? Hope it brings you as much pleasure as mine has to me. Performance Blue was my first choice for color; I took the Tangerine Scream only because my local dealer happened to have one, and it's so darn easy to find in parking lots.

Um, having moved from the California Central Valley to the coast, I'd rather leave memories of cows behind. Plus my past experience with seat covers is that they have an irritating tendency to migrate, and I imagine this problem would be worse in these snug-fitting Recaros.

"It's the one on the top."

Yes, I realize the fog lamp switch is immediately above the hatchback release, but sometimes the car might bump up and down a bit, or I might be using one hand for the steering wheel and the other for the shifter...I think a better solution would have been not to put the two buttons adjacent.

"You have a rear view mirror, right?"

Yes, but I also live in the 21st century. My grandparents had rear view mirrors.

"You have a Prius? Ewww."

I had four of them...and now I have only two of them, and four 2013 Ford Foci. So my ratio has improved.

"Only lame people listen to AM. I listen to AM, so I should know."

The news station I like to listen to is only available to me on AM, as their FM simulcast doesn't make it over the intervening mountains.

"Take it off."

It's my understanding that the California law enforcement officers frown on that.

"Just look down at your shifter. Or put your hand on it."

It's not the same. The display is there; why not make use of it? Heck, my three Titaniums show what gear their automatic transmissions are in, and that's far less useful information, IMHO.

I saw a thread about a bracket that moves the front license plate down to almost ground level, but I'm worried that if I went that route, I'd end up destroying the plate if I pulled up too close to a curb or one of those low concrete parking barriers.

How do you get your Titaniums to display the current gear?

I don't have one available to check; they're in use by other family members. I haven't driven them much, but I thought it showed the gear at the bottom of the info screen you see through the steering wheel, in the same place the ST tells you to shift. Maybe I'm wrong?

Not that it's a direct correlation, but the 2008 Miata GTA (automatic) that my ex took in the divorce showed the gear you were in, so it's not new technology.

And yes, I'm loving the Focus ST. Just have to figure out why I can't load a CD; looks like the loading port is blocked and I can't get in to the dealer during service hours for a couple of days.
