Fan works on 1234 but a/c light goes out after pos 1??

2004 ford focus, the heater fan blows fine on all 4 positions but when you want the a/c and push the a/c button it will only stay on on position1 and as soon as you go above one the a/c light goes out and no cold air. if i hold the switch between 1 & 2 the light stays on, the fan blows at pos2 speed and i get cold air but going past that the light shuts of and no cold air?? i think it is the switch but need expert opinions! thank you

Mine is doing the same I posted same issue a week ago with no response from the forum. I suspect it might be the switch. Keep me posted and I will do the same.

i just replaced the fan speed switch and no change. even the new one will run a/c if i leave the knob between 1 & 2 and even runs it a 2's speed. in the 1 position you really can't feel much air flow but when you flip it to 2,3&4 it increases normally.

I do not have time to look at mine I have read in other areas of the web this seems to be a common problem. Others have suggested you can try replacing the resistor connector it is located on the side of the fan assembly. The part is around $14 from a Ford dealer. Give that a try and at the same time inspect all the wires and grounds to the resistor and switch assembly. Later

Mine is now fixed I replaced the switch resistor pact and that did it. As I stated best to buy at the dealer $14 i had no choice dealers were closed so I went to the bone yard.
