Blow By Build Up

Okey dokey. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. I have oil build up in my charge piping and IC that is intermittently making it's way into the engine causing it to smoke on occasion. I know I have to disassemble the charge piping and clean it, the MAF and the IC.

I now have my PCV and my valve cover (EGR, I think) routed to a catch can that's venting to atmosphere, so as far as I know, this will alleviate the blow by oil after I clean it up.

So, my question is...what is the safe way to clean out the IC without damaging it? Thanks in advance.

It should be coming from the front side of the turbo which will need servicing. Remove the IC to clean an drain it well.

I've been researching it and have found that some people use carb cleaner followed by soapy water and then clean water to rinse. After drying well, put everything back together and then let the car idle for 15-20 minutes to ensure evaporation of residual water. Does this sound right?

You can clean it with about anything you want , its Alum and anything short of acid or psi washing will be fine

Carb cleaner then soap will be good , if you can use hot water to rinse it it will dry good after you stand it on one end to drain , or like you stated and let it idle for a bit

On to the cause , this doesnt just happen if you have oil pre intercooler the only place this can come from it turbo , either your over spooling or shock , over heating the turbo or you have seals going or gone out , one last thing could be excessive oil psi and volume to the turbo , I would check things in this order

oil psi / volume to turbo , you should be running a -3 oil line and a restrictor ???

over spooling or shocking , are you making boost out side its limits or the BOV not working properly where when you let off the throttle your stopping/slowing the spinning of the turbo ?

Overheating the turbo , excessive cyl temps , lack of enough fuel at wot , nothing over 11.3 AF or excessive timing ?

Where does the smoke come from? When I'm doned riving smoke comesfrom passenger fenderbecause the dp touches my ac compressor

It's coming from the exhaust, so oil is making it's way into the engine and burning off. I'm looking at taking the charge piping apart on Sunday, cleaning everything and taking a look at the turbo.

Also, what's the safe oil pressure range for an '05 ZX4, 2.0L ATX with a GT28RS stage II?

It may come from the hot side of the turbo and leaking into the exhaust. Your engine should have a healthy oil pressure...what restrictor in what line size are you running to feed the turbo? In the return? Oil will get back to charge pipe and IC if turbo needs new seals.
