Another MAF discussion

2008 foci sedan, just installed a Steeda SRI. With all the usual good things to say I noticed a surge while driving down the road 55-60 between 1600 & 1900 rpm in high gear(automatic). Mechanics and the dealer ship said it was due to the MAF sensor and the frequency range in witch it operates. Says put the stock air box back on and it will stop.

Now every fiber in my being and past experience with GM vehicles says this is a pile of bull crap. But a family member of mine with an older 05 explorer just put one on his and the same basic thing is happening on his v6.

Is there merit to his statement? How does one fix this issue with out having to get a tune? Or get stuck with the stock air box?

Plugs are new, coil paks are new, o2 sensors new, EGR is new, MAF sensor new, injectors have been pulled cleaned re-oring'd and flow tested. I know they are not in static @ that rpm, throttle body is new, timing is right, vehicle turbine speed sensor was replaced, I'm using 93 octane. I even did a leak down check.

Am I an idiot? I have checked everything I could think. Any new ideas to try?

Try mass air flow cleaner, shit is no joke, if the sensor gets wet it could happen. Tru that if not start checking vacuum lines, spark plugs, also try using less octane gas like 89, unless u have a tune 93 wont burn properly and you'll get a hesitation
