Amplifier help: input sensitivity

I've been searching for a decent amp. The latest problem I've run into is that the amps I think I want are only rated for RCA input up to 4v. The head unit I'm planning on getting has 5v pre-outs.

What would happen if you hook up a 5v RCA to a terminal that is only rated to handle 4v? I can't find any information on this. I'm afraid I'll end up with some distortion, and for an SQ build- that's not the best idea.

You will be fine Alex. Set your gains with a test CD like Autosound 2000's CD 104 and a DMM.

I just PM'd you.

Sorry, havent been on for a few days.

But a test tone cd would help a lot, even more if you get the package that will allow you to measure the RCA output and the speaker output at the amp. Works out nice if you want: No clipping better SQ, or just want it loud.

Cool, y'all will have to school me on that. I wonder if the Auto EQ function might do that? I know it uses test tones, but not sure if it's that involved.

I'll know more by Friday. I have to put the stereo in before FF13, but not all the speaker/amp stuff I wanted to do. That will have to come later- and a ton of freaking mat!

I have so much to do to the car before FF13- I might have to take a few days off!!
