lol, but the mhl cable for a samsung phone is a proprietary cable because samsung uses a proprietary design to make it work.

mhl might be the standard, but samsung is using a non-standard connection.

(When you're out of ammo, you should really stop pointing your gun )

Apple makes a move for in-car dashboards and infotainment with 36 new patents (read Apple smells money)

There was no "standard connection" for MHL. The connector itself was never part of the standard agreed upon by the consortium. To that end, EVERY CONNECTOR was "proprietary". Again - the standard is connector agnostic.

I'm just confused why so many people have negative opinions against Apple's business practices? How do their decisions and patents affect you?

I can't think of a single instance where an Apple patent has ruined my life or made my life more difficult...

Hahaha and you think this is somehow better or vastly different than Apple using their own standard method of connectivity and standardizing a cable/connector across their product line? You're an idiot.

One is across its own product line only and one is complying with an industry developed and agreed upon standard. Good luck getting Apple to the IVT standardization party you seem to be calling for.

Calling me names doesn't make you any less blinded by Cool Aid and frankly makes look rather immature.

I like the Raspberry Pi idea above, flexible & inexpensive - unlike Apple

Yeah, Apple is just...awesome.

I was hoping this would evolve into an intellectual discussion about infotainment systems not turn into a cell phone debate.

To each their own, one man's junk is another mans treasure, be thankful we have choices. if you like Apple then buy Apple, if you like Android then buy Android. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything.

Thanks! I'll be adding another how-to describing how to add real buttons to the Pi's GPIO header to control the back, home, volume, power, and menu controls on the phone.

Dude, do you work for apple? You are defending them like Steve Jobs was your father or something. Not sure why you are so annoyed by people talking about apple.
