Dodgy code reader and car or just coincidence...!

Car is a Mk1 2000 1.8 zetec, done 170k miles, only issue to date was a failed ABS wheel sensor!!! It is currently running fine (even when the engine MIL is lit)

I've had an intermittent engine MIL issue for a couple of weeks. I bought a D900code reader that arrived yesterday and appears to connect ok to the OBD. I can read live data with no issue but it only very occasionally will read the DTC codes (most often it just reboots itself before I can try again).

The first successful read showed P0133 so I cleared this, started the engine and tried again, eventually it read codes P0032, P0101, P0761, P0133 (however the MIL had not lit up again??) I tried again and got P0100, P0133, P0761 and C2126 (again no MIL), cleared and tried again and no codes to report....

Since the reader is intermittently failing to connect I am suspicious of this and have another on order but the MOT is due in 2 weeks and sods law dictates the MIL will light for the test station?

I have inspected the wiring around both O2 sensors and the MAF with no obvious chaffing etc.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

2. Any bright ideas/helpful tips or steps to diagnose what's causing the fault?

3. Do O2 and MAF faults tend to cause intermittent MIL illumination or do I need to look for another fault

3. What does P0761 indicate with a manual transmission - general wiring fault?

4. Does anyone have info on C2126 since I can find nothing searching the web?

I'm baffled. I'm next going to try the new code reader and see what that spits out, assuming nothing new/different I'm going to try a few diagnostic tests on the O2 sensors (readings fluctuate from about 0.1v to 0.7v) and MAF then cross my fingers

Thanks for any help

to save you looking up the dtc's

P0032 - Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Heater Control Circuit High (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0100 - MAF circuit malfunction
P0101 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P0133 - Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank1, Sensor1)
P0761 - Shift Solenoid "C" Performance/Stuck Off
C2126 - ????
