New rattle noise coming from underneath car when cold

So I fixed my belt noise see here.

And now I can hear another noise at low RPM under load.

It's sort of a rattle sound (think shaking a coffee tin with a few soda can tabs inside of it) It sounds the same while it happens, there is no variance in frequency or volume based on rpm, however it does not occur above 2k RPM in any gear.

It occurs at low RPM under load, ONLY when the engine is cold.

For instance, When I'm leaving the parking lot at work, the sound can be heard but as soon as I'm to the end of the street, the sound is gone.

It seems to be coming from underneath the driver's side of the front half of the car. I'm thinking possible transmission noise? Nothing 'feels' off while driving and the sound disappears after a minute or so. I'll try to get a recording of it if that might help...

Can you make it happen with quick steering changes? (please say no)

My first thought is ignition timing/knock. Try a different grade and or station.

Could be just a heat shield rattle

Hi mac.mogul,

Have you been to your dealership so they can check this out? You seem like a pretty handy person, but your dealer is always available to assist. Let us know how things progress! :)

Oh no no steering and suspension is out of the question for this one. It's definitely not timing or knock or pinging or anything in the combustion chamber either. This is definitely just a brief rattling noise at sub 2k RPM under load.

I was under the car last night to check on heat shields and didn't notice anything loose or misplaced.

Thanks! The dealer is a last-ditch effort because of their usual 'clogged artery and hair plugs' style of incompetency, but I really appreciate your willingness to assist.

I didn't notice the sound this morning when I drove to work, but if I take-off aggressively like I almost always do, The sound is non-existent. I've only noticed it in the parking lot where aggressive driving is discouraged and ONLY when I'm leaving at the end of the day and the drivetrain is cold.

I have SIRI set to remind me when I get out to my car to take a video

Hot/Cold says it's temperature related.
RPM says it's frequency related, but not dependent.

So as the car is warming up something is expanding slightly. That says it's probably near the exhaust. Heatshields are the most likely.
I wonder if a mount bolt on the manifold is loose or if one pulled through the shield?

I think you're going to have to grab a buddy and have him load the engine cold while you're under it listening.

Well, it didn't make the sound today. I don't know what's up!
