Car is Stuck in Park.

Ok guys I need a little help. My car keeps blowing the number 54 fuse under the dash and in turn I can't move my shifter out of park unless I us the override button. Do i need to replace the stoplight switch on the brake pedal or is it a wire that's shorting on me? Any help is welcome.

Have someone step on the brakes and see if u have brake lights, if u dont then clearly they brake light switch is the culprit. Also check the power/ground going into it.

I have no brakes at all. I'll replace the switch and cross my fingers.

Fixing switch will not fix the brakes if they don't work.

I replaced the switch and it still blew the fuse. Any ideas where to look? I was told somewhere else that it could be bad brake light bulbs. Is that possible?

I replaced all of the brake light bulbs and while I was back there one of my license place lights literally fell out of the fixture it was so corroded and the prongs were horribly corroded as well. Could that be linked to my issue at all?

Sounds more like a short, check the wires to the switch you could have a broken wire/bad ground.

I checked all of the wires going into the switch and they all look like they're in good condition. No breaks, cracks or exposed wires. And let me add that I have very little wiring/electrical experience and at this point it's like searching for a needle in a haystack.
