Some of the G's I was pulling on twisty roads last year in the focus were actually pulling on my neck. Agreed, the driving feel is great.

What uncertainties? Their basically Focuses anyway also.....even if Mazda went under Id bet you could get it serviced at a Ford dealer.

Everything you said is inaccurate. Ford sold its interest in Mazda. Focus and the Mazda 3 have nothing on common.

Actually, the 2014 Mazda 3 will be the first 3 generation that does not use any Ford parts, platform, etc. Every model prior to that still has as least some Ford parts, DNA.

I wound up getting a Fusion SE instead of the Focus SE. It's definitely a nice car and I love how quiet it is compared to what I've been used to.

Probably not unless they got lucky and the dealer happened to have ordered a 1.6 L EcoBoost 6MT for dealer stock. The vast majority of the Fusions are the 6F35.

No, it's the AT. It handles very nicely though. There's a traffic circle I sometimes drive and yesterday I was having fun and easily going around upwards of twice as fast as the others. About 1/2 way around I had to slow way down for the goobers in my way.

Wasn't asking you, suss, we all know how well-versed you are in Ford's ordering system, no need to stick your half-a-penny in at every turn.

While I have you, though, what are your thoughts on the Fusion's gear ratios? Are they optimal?

I was playing the odds of probability on that one, but anyway.

It appears that the 1.6 L EcoBoost in the Fusion uses the same gearbox as the Fiesta ST with a shorter final drive. The spec sheet only lists one final drive not two, therefore it can't be the MMT6 used in the Focus ST.

1st gear Fusion 3.73:1 vs Fiesta ST (B6) 3.72:1 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 3.231:1
2nd gear Fusion 2.05:1 vs Fiesta ST (B6) 2.05:1 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 1.952:1
3rd gear Fusion 1.36:1 vs Fiesta ST (B6) 1.36:1 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 1.321:1
4th gear Fusion 1.03:1 vs Fiesta ST (B6) 1.03:1 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 1.029:1
5th gear Fusion 0.82:1 vs Fiesta ST (B6) 0.82:1 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 1.129:1
6th gear Fusion 0.69:1 vs Fiesta ST (B6) 0.69:1 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 0.943:1
Reverse gear Fusion unlisted vs Fiesta ST (B6) 3.8:1 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 4.600:1
Final Drive: Fusion 4.07:1 vs Fiesta ST (B6) 3.82 vs Focus ST (MMT6) 4.063/2.955.

So given this, and given that the Focus 1.6L EcoBoost in Europe and the Mondeo are also using the B6 gearbox as well it seems more likely that the Fusion is using the lighter duty transmission.

Color?

The 6F35 seems to have had a lot of its kinks worked out so I don't think you'll have a problem there! Enjoy the new ride!
