you also may have broken it. i know i broke my shift cable. dont ask me how because i really dont know but the metal cable broke inside...

Yep exactly what mine did 4 years ago, it was the shifting cable. Was like 60 bucks. Just find someone with a good rep or ask people that would know people and will probably cut you a deal. I paid 50 to get it put on. Is a bit difficult i was told.
