Steeda designed their sri to work w/o a tune.

Bought a 2006 ZX4 in 2008 from a friend that owns a dealership close by. They had just changed the air filter box right before I bought the car. It had 28,000 miles on it. According to his service manager it needed replacing by the gauge. He recommended a change every 50,000 miles for our style of driving. I'm getting close to that so I'm looking at OEM or an alternative.

Well it's going to depend on the environment, but I'm thinking 50k is early unless the gauge says it's bad. My gauge says green with 85k miles, so I'm assuming I have a while to go. I'll get serious at 100k miles. Leaning towards staying with the stock but maybe adding a second recording vacuum gauge that you can reset.

A Steeda sri or a Fwerks cai would work wonders w/o a tune.

Okay, that's good. The code on mine is PO171. I think it's because the intake is not designed for my car and its sucking in too much air. I'm not very knowledgeable about cars though, I barely know the basics. The intake is louder than my engine when I start the car, it idles at 2000 rpms and slowly works its way down the gauge before settling just under 1k. I'm pretty sure that isn't good.

I believe the high idle is normal. My 2005 did it before I put on the steeda and still does it after. I have a manual tranny, not sure that makes a difference.

I wouldn't be so quick to down foam filters, some of the best flowing ones on the planet are foam..................................and the other one recommended is a cotton gauze, which brings its' own troubles to the table.
