Input on headlight housings to replace old eBay halos

I've had my car since highschool when halo/projector headlights were a huge thing. Since then I've unplugged the halo led's and let them ride. They've hazed a little and I'm looking to replace them with something other than the stock chrome halogen housings.

I've looked at Inpros/ST170s but they're so expensive. I'd really like to have a set of projectors that I can run some HIDs in. The projectors I have now are kinda patchy with hot spots.

-- What I really want is to get some headlights with the turn signals included inside of the housing. That way I can paint over the turn signals in the grill or get a grill w/o them(would that be a "euro" grill?).

I was actually going to get another pair of Halo headlights(with the turn signals in them) but leave the halos unplugged, seal them up so they don't get moisture in them like so many generics do, and go the whole Lamin-X route.

What's your thoughts?

PS - The eBay special halos that I have now have been surprisingly durable. I haven't even had a bulb to go out and you know they had to use the cheapest they could find.

Well if you're on a budget, the route you're describing sounds about the best. Even going with Depot Mach's, by the time you have everything you need, you'd spend about what you could get a set of Inpro's for.

I would highly suggest an HID retrofit though, instead of just the bulb inside the ebay housing. Those do not have good light output in that setup. And an HID retrofit from theretrofitsource.com isn't that costly.

I've looked into retrofitting and it seems like something I don't have the knowledge or skills for. Guess I could learn but I just don't see me working on too many headlights.

If you looking into HIDs I recommend machs. but just regular halogens, if you can't get a hold of ST170s and I know pyro is selling a set right now in the BST area. I would look into depo black housings.

I've looked into Machs but I was trying to stay away from chrome. Who knows what I'll do. I may even go with the depo black housings and hide some turn signals in one of the grills.

Get some Machs and paint them, I bought a spare set of chrome inserts to paint so I could take my time. Since you already have lights on your car you can spend as long as you want painting them.

I found some repro ST170 lights on ebay Germany, from what I can translate (I dont speak German) it's a pair for about $210 shipped. I can find the link if you want to see it.

...or just take vinegar and take chrome off. They are gloss black under the chrome.

so you painted a set of Machs? Any pictures?
also, I don't know if I want to order something from Germany on eBay. Sounds like trouble unless they speak English.

Left - http://focus.c-f-m.com/fordreplaceme...rdfocus-3.aspx
Right - http://focus.c-f-m.com/fordreplaceme...focus-3-2.aspx

That comes out to about $305 shipped. Isn't that a decent price for them being new?

This is what they look like as of now, they're Dark Shadow Gray with chrome accents the chrome peeled on one of the main rings so I panted them gray. The chrome "plating" is super thin and it peels off easily so masking it with tape is risky, even with low stick tape. I think all black looks like poo, but it would be so much easier lol.

Now I redoing the spare set of inserts how I originally wanted them off a Photoshop concept I did. Main color is still DSG with nickel metallic paint.

I had a class with a German guy and he said a lot of people speak English there, I haven't been there so IDK for myself, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Remember the CFM Depo Machs don't have the bulbs or ballasts in them, that's why they're cheap.
