Clutch slipping? Questions and Things to look for to verify?

Hello. I own several SVT Foci, and I am regularly test driving additional SVT's to buy. Questions about the clutch:

1. What are the sure signs of a clutch slipping when test driving a car?

2. Should a car always stall if attempting to go forward in gears 2/3/4/5/6 when releasing the clutch but applying to no gas? If it does not stall, is that a sign of a slipping clutch?

3. Also, does a high pedal release ("sweet spot") versus a low pedal release mean anything? And can the release point be adjusted?

4. What are the signs if the clutch is " only beginning to slip" but it is not severe, and will possibly cause problems 10k miles later? Basically "early warning signs?"

All help sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know about an SVT, but in my foci yes it should stall if you don't ride the clutch to take off in 2nd...

Early signs of a slipping clutch will begin in higher gears like over drive, when going up a hill and you floor it, the RPMs rise but the car does not accelerate... Over time the clutch will get worse and be noticeable in lower gears as well. And no the clutch is not adjustable.

It is possible to make a slipping clutch last along time, a buddy I work with has a f250 7.3 he uses as his dd, his clutch got brake fluid on it 5 years ago and he has been babying it since and so far it hasn't gotten much worse.
