2004 ZX3 2.3 Grinding/rattling noise

Used to Lurk here and figured this would the website to ask....

When I engage the clutch to drive, I can hear a grinding/rattling/bad bearing noise coming from the bottom right of my car. It goes away when I get into 4th/35mph. Other than that it drives fine.... I tried to look to see if anything is wrong under there but everything looks great! I researched online and I'm getting everything from bad motor mounts to CV joints and wheel bearings. Any ideas?? CV looks good, the wheel bearings don't have any play. I would think its my clutch but I only got 58k on the odo. I don't wanna go replacing a bunch of parts til its fixed.

Any help is appreciated, my motorcycle ate a valve seat and now my cage sounds like it's going out too, If I can't fix the car, it's gonna wreak havoc on my job life

Ehh... I think mine did this a couple of weekends ago. Does it only do it when your pushing the clutch in to shift? Mine actually kinda sounded like a blow off valve from a turbo every time the clutch was pressed coming from the right side of the engine with a little bit of grinding. It started right after I was making a u-turn and accidentally killed it because my foot slipped off the clutch and I cranked it back up. I was only like a mile away from the house, so I made it home and turned it off. Then I cranked it back up and it wasn't doing it anymore.

I'm thinking mine was actually with the ignition switch. I have to wiggle it after I start it or it gets stuck and when I killed it I didn't wiggle it, I just cranked it and let it go and I don't think the key returned to the ON position it kinda stayed barely in the start position which couldhave had something to do with it. Which the noise I heard was the starter... maybe?!?!?! IDK But that wouldn't explain why it would do it when I pushed the clutch in unless the drop in RPM's has something to do with it. Try wiggling the key switch after you crank it just a little bit back and forth and see if that fixes it. Then again... this could be completely coincidental with what happened to me and the ignition switch has absolutely nothing to do with it... lol which makes me an idiot. lmao But at least I tried! :-P Hope I helped.

I don't know what you call it, but we say "Drücklager"... If it rattles when you are not moving, most defenetly. Other possibility is the axel if it rattles when your moving.

I'm having an almost similar problem buddy. Check out my thread I posted called 2004 FOrd Focus 2.3l Knocking/Banging sound. It should be close to the top of this forum.

So does that mean it happen when you push the clutch pedal in, or when you let the clutch pedal out?

does it happen only when the car is in motion, or will it do it sitting still with the clutch pedal pressed in?

Have you checked the passenger side axle intermediate bearing? It supports that axle before the first CV joint.

My 04 ZX5 2.3 has a similar noise, and I was told it is the bearing for the strut...if you look at a diagram, there is a bearing at the top of the strut mount, just below the triangular mounting plate. Mine does it only on acceleration, as the front end lifts. Depending on the time and circumstances of your noise, this could be it.

Hold it hold it hold it..... 4th gear at 35 mph? I assume you don't have a tachometer, so can you tell us what speed you're shifting out of gears?

How many miles have you put on it since last year?

What is a drive line? Is that what someone called a drive axle? I could've told you how to test those, but at 60k miles, I seriously doubt you'd have failed a test. Please stop taking your car to the mechanic. I think I know what your problem is if you'll answer these questions.
