Focus is losing power

2006 Ford Focus ZX4 2.0 125,000 miles.

Over the past week my car has lost power accelerating. When I accelerate from a stop light it takes off slowly. I can floor it and sometimes it takes a second or two to gain speed. Even after first gear I can notice a decrease in power. I change the oil every 3,000-5,000 miles. Spark plugs have been changed not so long ago. New battery less than a year ago. Sometimes I do notice a bad (rotten egg) smell after I floor it to gain speed. Any advice?

Sounds like a bad catalytic converter. Egg smell is what gives it away

Rotten egg smell can also come from unburnt fuel being dumped into the cat, had this issue when my car had a misfire. Are there any other symptoms? Does your car feel as if you're pulling a really big boat(or some other heavy object)
