So I asked this on FJ and no response. Is a tune worth the $$$$

I'm lookin at buying the SCT Livewire TS Performance ECU Tuner & Monitor - Ford Focus. I have the fswerks race exhaust, CFM throttle body, aem short ram on my SVT focus (ORP or highflo cat soon cause cat is bad). I would like to get more power and I don't really care about mpg, but I would also like another tune for those long trips for better mpg. Is that possible to have different tunes I can change through? Can I play with it to make my own tune? Does the tuner always need to be plugged in the to keep the tune/car working right?

Can you pass inspection with a tune on your car? If I get an ORP and the tune needs to go back to stock to pass inspection will it still turn the O2 sensor off so the check engine light stays off and the sensor stays off? I live in NY and they do emissions testing.

Sorry for all the questions but I've never bought a tuner and just wanted to know if its worth $600. I know there is a cheaper tuner but have heard it doesn't always work for the svt and can lock the car.
Thanks
Shawn

I sell the xcal3 flasher , custom tune and free tune updates , I am also a SVT owner and I felt like the flasher and mt tune (other then the turbo) was by far the best mods I added to the SVT

Yes they will pass emissions with a tune installed

If you keep adding go-fast bolt-ons to a Focus...

Once the novelty of the new hotness wears off you'll feel EXACTLY like this! With a tune, the stock ECU is 'taught' different values as 'Normal' so it doesn't need to freak out and do it's fuel trim adjustments and other mapping-conflicts.

Once you have a good dyno-proven base tune, adding parts and retuning is a breeze and MUCH cheaper. The initial cost is kinda steep; but totally worth it!

Your car is only "locked" to other people. Don't get a tuner and sell the car without returning it to stock... that's the only 'lock' I'm aware of. It applies to the tuner; not the car, though.

If your car is tuned, you WILL NOT be able to use your tuner to plug into a similar car and give them your tunes... that stuff is 'locked' to YOUR vin number.

The tuners marry themselves to your ecu not the vin number.

If you have a flashed tune on your car the ECU is also locked , you wont be able to get another flasher and load another tune onto your ECU

Yes the flasher locks to the VIN # which is also in the ECU as a reference if VIN# does not match it doesnt allow the tune to load is my understanding of how it works
