2003 SVT feeling "sluggish"....

Hey guys

My SVT isn't feeling like she should. I put a CFM throttle body and a K&N Typhoon SRI on. For the first week, she felt superb! Very responsive, got up and went, burnouts were a breeze. Then the check engine light came on and the responsiveness went away.... Taking a bit of pressing down on the throttle to get going. Check engine light was for the IMRC. I fixed the IMRC, check engine light went away, car ran like it should, but only for a day and a half! Then the sluggishness came back... No check engine light is on either. And she's been this way since...

What could be causing this? It's not as nearly responsive as it should be, feels less responsive then it was stock.

What can I do to fix this and get my SVT back up to par?

This X 100. It worth at least testing the factory intake to see if it makes a difference. I seem to recall tests being done awhile ago that showed the factory SVTf intake was about as good as it gets.

I never understood the fascination with open air filters and/or short ram systems as all they really seem to accomplish is sucking up tons of hot air coming off the engine. The wifes VW came with a open filter short ram installed and I can't wait to rip it off because it gets heat-soaked so bad in the summer.

Thanks! I did take the typhoon off, feels better. But still has some "sluggishness" going on. I've been wanting to get the toms tune and have a nice tune done.

Any other ideas to help improve?
I'm almost at 92,000 miles, working on getting the $$$ to redo the timing (belt, idler, tensior). Would that also be why it's sluggish?

Timing could throw it off ... if you feel your belt is acting up though ... I wouldn't wait for it. I would just get on it.

IF you do it yourself, be careful. Many people have busted valves if they do it wrong.

Belt feels fine. Just coming up on the reccommended time to redo it. Thought that might be a reason.

Probably gonna take it to the dealer to do it.... (Which will cost an arm and a leg)

Changed mine at 56k miles a few weekends ago. Every time I peeked at the belt it looked fine, until I got it off and got a close look at the ribbed side which had a bunch of small dry rotted cracks all through the teeth. I'd be worried at your mileage lol, but don't think it's causing your sluggish problem.

You can do it yourself if you've got the tools, time, and patience to get it done right. When I changed mine it was the first timing belt i'd ever done, also the first time I've ever wrenched on a FWD vehicle(other than exhaust). Took me a few hours after work one day pulling it all apart, then half the day the next day to put it back together. Took my time, had a helper, and she's been running fine since.

I'd look into the DSI clip as well, might also be a good time for new plugs, wires, and fuel filter if they've yet to be done.

Don't think it's the DSI clip. Checked it out and it's all good. But am thinking about changing it to the CFM one they have.

Gonna jump onto doing the timing then.

Hahaha, I do it my self, but i don't have the time, nor the patience. Or tools....

Yes. Just changed the spark plugs and fuel filter too. Wanna do the wires too.

As of now, she's running alot better. Thins really improved when I took the Typhoon off!
