Newb with some questions

Hello, great forum with lots of good info.

I just picked up a 2008 Focus Sedan S with manual transmission. Vehicle has 71K miles and is in really good shape.

I have already installed A103 spark plugs gapped to .055" based on info from this forum, definitely noticed a change in performance.

I do have a few questions:

1.) in regards to replacing the dogbone bushings with Energy Suspension bushings, they only list bushings for older Foci, should those be compatible with the 08-11 Foci? Specifically looking at part number 4.1123 on their website.

2.) I just purchased / installed new tires and rims from TireRack to replace the snow tires that the car came with. Unfortunately I was unaware that TPMS is a requirement on 2008 and newer vehicles, so I opted to not get the TPMS sensors installed. Then while driving the car after installing new tires/rims the light comes on... so, I found the VDO Redi-Sensor (part number SE10001) and those seem that they should work. Are there any known issues with using those sensors on a 2008 Focus? Should they work OK?

3.) I am attempting to do some very mild upgrades on the vehicle over a period of time, vehicle is my daily driver which may see some autocross use in the future. Current path / plan of upgrades is as follows:

a.) Replace dogbone bushings.
b.) have TPMS sensors installed in the new tires/rims
c.) install strut tower brace
d.) install lowering springs
e.) install fresh air intake
f.) install new exhaust
g.) tune

And that should be about the extent of it. Are there any other fixes / modifications that make sense for a daily driver, possible Autocrosser? Doing this on a pretty small budget.

Thanks for any advice.

As far as the rear suspension goes there are a lot of bushings in the rear and replacing them is a major pita so much so that most dont attempt it. Seeing as you have an s trim car i dont believe there is a rear stabilizer. Get one 1-2mm larger than stock with some poly bushings. Leave the front stabilizer alone but add some polys up there. Then throw some poly bushings on the front lower control arms. With these simple parts your suspension will rock. The only let down will be your tires....so get a good set of those. Ive run perelli p6 conti extreme contacts and general altimax hp pretty good grip for all seasons but avg life was less than 40k...

Strut tower braces, see FSWerks or CFM.

Suspension, I'd look for the Ford Racing spring and damper kit.

Intake, FSWerks (CAI) K&N (SRI) Steeda (SRI)

Exhaust, FSWerks or Trubendz (if you can find one)

Header(if you want), FSWerks or OBX

Tune, Randy at FSWerks or Tom at Focus Power

I believe the sensors for the 2008 were band type and switched to valve stem type in 2009.

The Ford Racing Suspension is listed for 06-07 Focus but will fit 08-11 just fine as long as you
(a. Use your stock 'top-hats' to install 08-11 springs on 06-07 struts.
(b. use 06-07 springs with 06-07 struts.
(c. install the Omni-Kit that will allow you to use any suspension parts for 00-05 models.
There's a lot of confusion on suspension and you really just have to accept the fact there is little-to-no aftermarket support specifically for 08-11. Most chassis parts will work from 00-11 with the exception of front suspension and anything surrounding the zetec/spi engines.

I think everything else has been pretty well covered.

Actually, this is the Model Specific discussion forum for 08-11 Focuses. Sounds to me the guy had some "general questions" about his new car and he asked them in the correct forum where people with similar or identical cars will see it and respond accordingly.

While I agree it says "Model Specific", we do have the sections broken down to the way they are for a purpose. So someone can ask the type of questions they need and to get them answered quickly and accurately. The reason I gave him the other links was to let him know that we do have other sections that are devoted primarily to those needs i.e. engine, suspension, etc...

Also if you look at the header for the section it says this "MK2 Focus The place to chat about general questions, window tinting, exterior body, interior and lighting upgrades for the second generation 2008-2011 Focus." Can't be more specific than that, now can you? lol

Thanks for the feedback. I figured for a first post that the general section made more sense in that I had questions on a couple of different components of the car.

I ended up ordering the VDO sensors, I think they should be compatible with the 2008 focus (If not, they'll be for sale shortly...).

Also ordered the strut tower brace, next will be the lower motor mount. When I do the Eibach springs I intend to replace the front bushings as was recommended in this post as well.

The car came with 195/60R15 Snow Tires, purchased a set of 205/50R16 Firestone Precision Sport Tires on new rims ( thanks to Tire Rack! ). Very pleased with the performance upgrade with the new tires. However, it seems that at 71K the car is in need of new struts / shocks. I guess I will head over to that sub-forum for some more research on the recommended parts.

Thanks again for the feedback and the resource.

Did you get a rear or front tower brace?
