Focus to Focus ST

Hey Guys,

I am curious to get the feedback from those people that have upgraded their Mk3 Focus for a Focus ST. The dealer tried to get me to trade in the car the other day, and I am also a little concerned about the longevity of the DCT transmission....so am considering it.

Thank you for your comments.

from what i've read with other guys that have done this, they all love their swap. IMO, it makes perfect sense, you get a faster car with a great engine/manual tranny and the same interior room as the car your trading in. if you love how your car is now, but wouldn't mind a slightly stiffer ride and more HP/TQ, it's worth it

Check the a/c though, I'm not sure if it's worse than my last car or if I'm not preparing the car properly by using the sun shield and tinting the windows. Although I don't remember the SEL ever blowing warm air when set to full cold once the a/c is on, so I might have to have that looked at.

Otherwise yes I do love the engine and gearbox so far, as well as the handling and larger front brakes.

I say, go for the ST, DEREKC!

A little over two weeks ago, I traded my 2012 Focus "S", 5 speed sedan, for a black ST that was headed to Socal on the train from Michigan. It arrived one week later. I took a drive on Ortega Highway, and the cornering, and acceleration are fantastic.

I had upgraded my 2012's, suspension (Steeda, H&R), wheels (Braid), tires (BFG), intake and exhaust (FSWerks), shifter (Steeda) and rear motor mount (Mazda S3, CorkSport). It was my daily driver, and I never had a single problem with it.

I think the standard Focus and the ST are both great cars for the money. There's just no comparison, performance wise. I'm real happy with the ST!

Turns out my A/C was over charged, but barring that I still love the ST a lot more than my SEL, and I was pretty happy with the SEL also.

Just curious, but how bad did you get hit for when you traded in your regular Focus? Due to the terrible depreciation rate these cars have, I'm upside down in my SEL. I still owe around 26k, and KBB says that my car is only worth around 14k. I'd LOVE to get into an ST, but it really doesn't seem like an option (unless I drop a HUGE down payment with my trade). :(

I did take a hit. KBB had my Focus S trade in value at $10,400. I ended up getting $8,200 for it, and that was like pulling teeth.

my transmission started grinding at 21k miles and was getting progressively worse. made me sick but I loved the car otherwise.

I had a 2012 SEL that was very loaded that cost me $20400. I trade it for a 2014 ST1 that was on sale for $20400. I got $10500 for my SEL on trade-in. ouch.
