Aluminum so it can be anodized, but it can also be painted if you prefer. The s2Carbonworks website has some examples.

Is there any concern about the cover keeping too much heat in the engine?

I wouldn't think so, especially with the heat vents and it sits up off the engine so air can move from the front, up and over the engine, and out through the heat relief slits

page 2, post 17 has a link to a picture of what they will look like. And they can be customized with colors, anodization or paint, and logos. Was thinking of Ford Focus, but haven't heard a consensus on it yet.
