bad smell under WOT>>?

hey everyone, i have 2002 SVTF with every bolt on including new CFM hi-flow cat. i can't help notice when i am accelerating under WOT the car stinks like sulphur/exhaust. it's been like that even with the old cat on. new tune up done msd wires and coil. no cel. any thought?

What kind of fuel are you using up there? Some states/ provinces have different regulations on the amount of sulfur that is allowed in the fuel. That is most likely your source of the smell. Won't cause any harm thought.

Ever been behind a car on the highway and it stink like that when they floor it? its Normal

But recheck all the exhaust gaskets for leaks starting with the header

i do not get this smell in my Edge or my wifes sonata. and if i do its not half as bad. would this not suggest the car running rich?

that is because you no longer have a cat...

the cat helps reduce the smell/smog without a cat you can smell it.


oops you have a high flow... lol

i think a high flow will not clean the air as much as a regular one.

i do have a cat converter its just a high flow. and it did this with the stock cat converter.

Do you have a wide band air fuel gauge so you can see what your AF is ? Do you have a tune ?
If your running lean could make things hot enough for a smell

Check the seals on the hatch. That is the usual suspect.
Also any leaks in the exhaust pipes? Does the end extend past the bumper at least as far as stock?
Running rich, as needed with WOT accelerations cause the catalust to stop converting due to the lack of available oxygen. Too rich could cause some smell issues.

Do you have black smoke out the tailpipe on a WOT accel?
