I didn't really hear to much about that one. My buddy put an injen on his dodge dart and Im not impressed. No heat shield and it sits way to close to the engine...

Give your K&N intake time. The "seal" from the heat shield will wear a hole in the hood insulation and the rubber strip will come off. Plus did you add the cost of the cleaning kits over time? I will never buy another oiled filter. Ever.

Only my dyno thread. Nobody else seems to want to see what sort of gain they can get for $40. I'll link it in a minute after I figure out where it went.

Edit to the Edit: Briefly go through the whole thing. There are comparisons for OEM, the Drop-In, Snorkel-Delete, Newmission, and a Typhoon as well. Every different day that I did dyno work I did runs to show the current installation in comparison to whatever I was testing. It's as close as I can get to keeping changes pertinent with different environmental data without keeping my buddies dynamometer busy all day long.

So what was the gain from the filter and "ram air" mod?

I have owned K&N and other oiled filters in the past. I don't like the maintenance required. You have to have two filters so one can be serviced and another popped in to use the vehicle while the other one dries sufficiently. That now doubles your cost.
I have a dry filter with a pre filter over it and it keeps all but the finest dust out. I pull it out every now and then and blow it out with low pressure air and pop it back in. Stays nice and clean at all times.

That's silly... Just clean it at night and it will be dry by morning... Never had a problem with this with my past K&N drop ins... Also, if using a drop in you could just theoretically keep the paper filter it came with and put it in those couple hours the other filter is drying.

Am I reading them incorrectly? It looks like there wasn't any improvement with just the drop in (no snorkel delete)

Maybe in the summer. Maybe.

I can't wait overnight for a filter to dry and then oil it and wait for that to dry too. If you use drop ins yes you can pop the paper one back in but not on the intakes.

But why all of this when there is dry filter technology?

My gain was 8hp 5lb ft. I don't discount that many make more power, but on the dollar-hp cost the Typhoon would have to be six times as good (relatively speaking).

I understand not liking the maintenance, but there's no need to have two K&N filters. Your car came with a filter and you can use that if the car needs to be driven while you're servicing the other. If it's any consolation, I literally have two airboxes, with filters and MAF sensors. It's the price I paid for doing the testing, as I found that the Newmission mod (on my car for my commute) absolutely killed my mileage. In comparison to the Typhoon the drop-in/snorkel delete also had better mileage when compared to that as well. I don't typically drive over 3200 rpm, and the drop-in/snorkel delete was well above the Typhoon in power in those ranges. In all fairness, I didn't get a lot of time to test it for mileage, but that was my experience.

I don't discount any of the intakes. They all have pro's and con's, and what is perfect for me may not be perfect for you. If you want a non-oiled filter, I don't discount that at all. All consumers have different needs.

Yes, you read that correctly. I was surprised as well, but the numbers didn't lie. With just the drop-in, you will have better throttle response and possibly even better mileage, but no additional power.
