I just took out the whole box altogether along with the full snorkel delete. I put a outwear prefilter on my k&n drop-in. Other than getting a little warmer intake the stock ram hoses supply a good source of cool air and I definitely have some performance gains with no change to my mileage.

Did you keep the ram air setup? If so I may try fabricating a shroud for it to direct the cool air on the the filter

Yes, the factory tubing for the air intake is still there. It's been my plan to fan something up that would put air a little more directly to the filter but stock is pretty close.

Might have to do this during lunch today. If all else fails ill get some high density plastic and heat weld it up. How does it sound?

It sounds pretty good to me. Louder on acceleration and going up hill but quiet as stock at cruise. Gives it a much more aggressive sound when at WOT too.

I've been thinking of fabbing something up to hold the filter in place like the steeda ram intake too. Without the box it kind of hangs a little bit but I've got a pipe clamp holding it on.

Pipe clamp should be fine but the shroud to block off the engine temp would be beneficial I would think

I agree it probably is, I'd like to get a cai to be honest. I took out the whole box to see what it'd do and so far I like it. I was planning to do a newmission mod but I don't have the time or tools to do it. No to mention I have the wrong kind of triangles in the front. They don't have the removable air dams.

ChalupaJones: Are you saying that you removed the whole box around the filter? So the filter is just hanging?

Also, has anyone had any problems with their MAF with removing the lid? I have had the lid off for about 6 months but put it back on because of the warnings at the beginning of this thread. That is the last thing that I need to have happen is for my MAF to crack.

FYI: First time poster, long time follower.

Warnings about resonance damaging your MAF?

I haven't seen a single report of MAF damage from top removal or even open-element aftermarket intakes as a result of resonance. There are many owners on here with those setups. The only reports of MAF housing cracks have been from K&N intake users that overtightened their filters. Those MAF housings were replaced for ~$6.

Just keep in mind that removing the top of the air box isn't really going to gain you anything but extra sound/noise.

That's correct. It's not supported but its sitting pretty well.
Also, welcome to FF
