Pay for a tune; about $400. I haven't done it, as without other mods the power gains are minimal and I don't need to go over 106 very often.

Also, make sure you upgrade your suspension and tires if you are planning on exceeding 106. I have an 03 LX, and when I hit the governor (when the car was less than a year old) the car was not very stable. I can only imagine how bad it would be on a 10 year old suspension....

I don't think the SPI (or Zetec, for that matter) will do much more than 110 MPH even if it were unrestricted lol

This. I dont trust a SPI at 65 let alone 100+ lol. Those engines aren't made for speed.

Im not sure which track you are talking about. I took my SVTf on an abandoned runway (2.5 miles) and was hard pressed to get to 130. Even the other cars that were there (Evos, STIs, MS3s, etc) were having a hard time breaking the 150 mark in such a short distance)

Unless you had some serious mods, I highly doubt you could get a zetec to 140, and I even more highly doubt that there is a track in the US that has a straight-away long enough to get you there.

The car will do 140 it took awhile but it will. Though I had no speed limiter on that car.

Do you have any experience with the SPI?

For years I hit 80 on a daily basis in my SPI (Now I am fortunate enough not to have to get on the highway to get to work)

The engine is certainly strong enough to handle that. The motors are very strong and reliable (valve seat issues not withstanding) and can handle more boost on stock internals than a zetec.

It is not a bad motor, just not a performance motor. But to claim that they can't handle highway speeds is simply misinformed.

My aunt had a 2001 se with the SPI. The damned thing never worked right lol.

In all seriousness though. it wasnt a bad motor per say, but it wasnt built for triple-digit speeds. In truth, the whole focus platform wasnt really made for 100+. Its a commuter car, not a race-car. Even the SVTF became unstable past 100.
